Today, as we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration, let's take a moment and allow Jesus to lead us up the mountain to pray.
Jesus is with Peter, James and John while praying and He changes in appearance.
This sight alone was startling enough but then Elijah and Moses are seen conversing with Jesus. Can you imagine what the apostles were thinking?
Then from the heavens they heard God's voice proclaiming Jesus as His Son.
In this time on Mt. Tabor, so much has happened. Peter wants to build tents for Jesus and the prophets. It is normal to want to make the moment last but necessary to go deeper. Jesus is moving toward His passion, death and resurrection.
This Lenten season we are called to a deeper understanding of the message of the Transfiguration and what it prefigured. We are called to see that Jesus, the Son of God, in whom God was well pleased, lovingly said "yes" to His passion, death and resurrection and our reward is the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
